"

Mac passed on July 15.  I spoke to him about a month before he passed and we had a great conversation about our Bellaire football days as well as what was going on with him at the time.  He had a great attitude and was at peace with his life and decisions.  Mac will be missed by many people especially the Bellaire 72 football team.
One of the little known facts about Mac, outside of the 72 football team, was that his sobriquet was "Squeaky". The Bellaire coaching staff anointed him with it because he barked out his signals in a slightly nasal, falsetto voice.  I played on defense and thought to myself "he is not at all intimidating!"  The 72 offense ran a veer type scheme which required Mac to essentially make 3 simultaneous "reads" (decisions) while moving down the line...1. hand to the dive back, 2. keep the ball or 3. pitch to the trailing back.  After every busted play during practice Coach Phillips could be heard yelling "Read Squeaky Read!!!"  Well friends...on game night...man oh man...could Squeaky read!!

Mac was one heck of a compeditor.  He was my quarterback at Bellaire and directed our team to bi-district play. It was always great to sit and talk with Mac about our glory days on the field.  Being the quarterback he saw and remembered just about every play we ever ran, and who did what to make the play work.  Mac lived out loud through his stories and zest for life.  If you knew Mac, there was no guessing what he believed or thought, cause he would tell you.  I will miss my friend!  R.I.P.

I remember one of my first encounters with Mac outside of football. He was in my class and showed up the first day with a blow-up donut shaped bright blue ring. I confronted him about his "toy". He promptly let me and the whole class know that it was for  his hemorrhoids in a loud and suprisingly indignant voice. He, then, demonstrated how to sit on it with a hillarious pained look on his face. For me, that was Mac: spontaneous, unrestrained and someone that you were always happy to see coming your way. Playing football, he was instinctive and a thoughtful leader. We had some good atheletes and he brought everyone together for a memorable and winning season. I am so sorry to hear of Mac's passing. He was just a wonderful guy.
