Johnny was a locally reknown guitar player/ singer who passed in 1990 after a tragic car accident late one night (he was not at fault). I met JL at Pershing circa 1968 and being a guitar player had great respect for his talent. Much later, I played a few gigs with Johnny's band "Blues Tool" in 1987 along with Luke "Lucky" Ligotino and Buddy Peiser both of whom I remain in touch with and miss JL as well. Johnny taught me a lot about music & guitar and playing with him was hilariously fun, fulfilling and memorable, RIP Johnny Laxton.
Johnny Laxton was a great guy and a fantastic musician. I remember him playing "Black Bird" in the auditorium at Bellaire on an acoustic guitar and sang it as well. That memory comes back to me every time I hear that song. His version was better in my opinion. I lived a few streets over from him in the early eighties. Good friend for sure.
